Mr. Kenneth Tanaka, B.A.

Kenny Tanaka

Position Title
Graduate Researcher

  • Materials Science and Engineering
Bio

Kenny is not a typical engineering student having a bachelor’s degree in history from SF State. After graduating, he worked in the motorcycle industry for a few years which sparked his interest in the materials that go into the development and production of motorcycles. Shortly after realizing that becoming an engineer was not unobtainable, he quit his job and came back to academia.

Kenny’s true passion is motorcycles and is currently the main fabricator/welder for the Formula SAE club on campus. This correlates to his career aspiration to become an automotive engineer and develop the next generation materials for racing applications. This transitions well with Professor McCormack’s interest in materials for space exploration because as Kenny has said before, “if it’s good enough to send up into space, it’s good enough to send around a racetrack!”
