The conference (following the first STOHT held at UC Davis in 2016) will include invited and contributed presentations covering experimental and computational approaches to obtain structural and thermodynamic data at temperatures above 1500 °C, including:
- Thermal analysis and calorimetry
- Experimental determination of phase diagrams
- High-temperature thermodynamic properties from mass spectrometry and other equilibrium experiments
- Computational approaches to examine high-temperature properties
- In-situ Synchrotron X-ray and neutron diffraction experiments
- Levitation techniques and their potential for oxides, carbides, nitrides, and borides
The emphasis is on the combination of experimental results on phase equilibria and thermodynamic data with first principles computations to ensure the highest impact from experimental results and their leverage using CALPHAD and other optimization methods.
